MARIE GUILLAND

What defines you as a person?

Differences in sociocultural elements such as history, language, and belief systems are the building blocks of one’s identity.

Nationalities, ethnicities, and even our parents mark life’s long journey with countless expectations – both good and bad.

However, globalisation and social mixing have worked to blur the lines of expectations, allowing a new type of reality.

THE SUBTLENESS OF ASSUMPTIONS ARE INTERESTING.

AREN’T THEY?

Who and what you are, as well as where you come from, also impacts heavily on the way people interact with you and how willing they are to reveal themselves.

Do WE ALWAYS NEED TO DEFINE WHO WE ARE?

As the world becomes smaller and more connected, multiculturalism evolves differently.

This new reality of cultural and ethnic mixing fosters new tribes to form across the globe.

Rather than communities defined by race or geography, these people are brought together by ideas and values.

Only Passing By studies and records as much as possible from this cultural synergy, and shows the evolution of each country’s identity.

HOW DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR OWN ROLE IN GLOBALISATION AS AN INDIVIDUAL?

Globalization is a wave that flows through our lives. Those who embrace it, ride at the crest of this wave and come to be the people who define its growth.

“Diversity is the engine of invention. It generates creativity that enriches the world.”

— Justin Trudeau

This project aims to introduce a new path for those seeking their place in the world.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE YOURSELF IN THIS FLOW OF CONSTANT MOVEMENT?
